Spy shots and video of the 2022 Genesis G90: the redesign of the flagship sedan has begun

The redesigned Genesis G90 has been spotted.

The new flagship sedan is expected to debut later this year as a 2022 model, and should get a new platform and possibly an electric battery.

The current G90 was updated just a year ago, but the redesign is not unexpected, as the history of this handsome full-size sedan dates back to a model launched in Korea in 2015.

The prototype of the new G90 is heavily camouflaged, but the split headlights and part of the Genesis-branded crest grille are visible. Also clearly visible is the greenhouse shape, which differs significantly from the design of the current G90: the sides are divided into five separate windows instead of the current model's three. A similar design can also be seen on the Lexus LS.

The platform is supposed to be a stretched version of the Genesis-specific M3 architecture, which debuted on the GV80 midsize crossover and then migrated to the G80 midsize sedan and GV70 small crossover. This rear-wheel-drive platform is compatible with all-wheel drive as well as electric powertrains, such as on the new electrified G80. Trademark applications indicate that Genesis is at least considering an electric G90.

It is still unclear whether a V8 will be offered once the updated G90 arrives; it will likely be powered by the 375-hp 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine found in the GV80 and G80. It is possible that there will also be a plug-in hybrid version with even more power. Even if a purely electric version appears, it probably won't be available at the sales launch.

The cabin will feature a digital dashboard with an instrument cluster and a dual-screen infotainment center. The current standard is the high-tech design featured on the redesigned 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The current G90 is priced at $73,195. The price of the current G90 is $73,195, but given the rising prices of other recent Genesis variants, a small premium on that figure is expected for the new G90. Expected.
