2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Spy Shot: The arrival of the electric hot hatch

The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric hatchback has yet to arrive in the United States, but the automaker is already preparing a hot version.

Test mules of the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N have been spotted on the streets around the Nürburgring, but according to spy photographers, circuit testing has yet to begin.

The Ioniq 5 N mule features lowered suspension, wider front and rear tracks, low-profile tires, and new wheel designs. Spykraman noted that the brakes have also been upgraded from the production car with larger calipers and rotors. The suspension also appears to be stiffer, with revised shocks and springs.

As an early test car, the Ioniq 5 N mule did not have different bodywork from the production car. Expect to see unique bumpers, side skirts, rear spoiler, and perhaps functional vents for brake cooling and downforce.

The Ioniq 5 N will be mounted on the same skateboard-style EV-specific E-GMP platform as the mainstream Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 will be available with a single rear motor or front and rear motors for rear or all-wheel drive; the Ioniq 5 N will be rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is unknown at this time.

The standard Ioniq 5's 77.4 kwh battery pack will be mounted under the hatchback's floor, keeping the weight low and centered in the vehicle. The all-wheel drive Ioniq 5 has a maximum output of 302 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque, with the Ioniq 5 N offering significantly more power and a 0-60 mph time that is 5 seconds faster than the standard Ioniq.

More details on the 2023 Ioniq 5 N will be released as development progresses.
