Mercedes-Benz's AMG division is not resting on its laurels when it comes to developing new electric-only vehicles.

After unveiling a hardcore version of the Mercedes EQS at the Munich Motor Show in September, the Affalterbach tuner is now preparing its next EV based on the Mercedes EQE, which also debuted at the Munich show.

The EQE is a mid-size electric sedan related to the larger EQS hatchback; the AMG version features the typical AMG front mask with A-wing design and a larger wheel and tire package. Some testers also installed carbon ceramic brake rotors.

The AMG EQS is expected to hit dealerships next spring as a 2022 model. The AMG EQE will likely arrive in the fall of 2022 as a 2023 model.

The AMG EQS is confirmed to have 649 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque in normal mode, but has a temporary boost feature that can increase output to 751 hp and 751 lb-ft depending on race start mode. Power will come from two electric motors, one on each axle, making the AMG EQS all-wheel drive; a similar setup is expected for the AMG EQE.

AMG has extensive experience with electric power. Recall that the tuner was first tested in 2014 with the SLS AMG Electric Drive, which was the fastest and most powerful EV on the market at the time thanks to its 740 hp output. Since then, AMG has gathered more experience from the Formula 1 program, especially in the area of energy discharge and recovery.
