That's why Jay Leno doesn't own a Ferrari automobile.

Jay Leno's car collection encompasses a wide range of vehicles, from the familiar to the very esoteric. But one name is missing: a Ferrari, and in a December 2021 appearance on the "Cars and Culture" podcast, Leno explained why he doesn't own a single car with a prancing horse badge.

"I didn't like dealing with dealers," Leno said. 'I'm not knocking those cars.'

Given how expensive the car is, Leno feels that Ferrari dealers do not treat their customers properly. In a short clip, he cited Ferrari dealers for forcing customers to buy more than one car to secure orders and claimed that the company is forcing owners to pay for certificates of authenticity. Other supercar makers do better, he said.

Leno recalled that McLaren offered a free power upgrade for his MP4-12C, and that the sales representative told him honestly that he did not need to spend $20,000 for carbon ceramic brakes. Leno is a big McLaren fan, has owned an F1 since new, and drove his first P1 outside of McLaren, but that notwithstanding, it is hard to argue against such a service.

Similarly, Leno said that Porsche delivered a Carrera GT to his garage and gave him a complete walk-through of the car (which admittedly proved a bit unreliable). Ferrari, he claims, would never provide such a service.

Leno said Ferrari still makes "great" cars, and has featured several of them on his YouTube show, Jay Leno's Garage, ranging from a classic 1960 250 PF Cabriolet to the latest SF90 Stradale. One of the perks of having a popular YouTube show is that you can always borrow a Ferrari if you don't want to deal with the potential headaches of owning one.
