Spy shots of the 2023 Rolls-Royce Phantom: minor updates announced.

The camouflaged Rolls-Royce Phantom was spotted testing again.

This suggests that the British automaker is preparing an updated version of its current-generation flagship, which was introduced in 2017 as a 2018 model. This updated version is expected to appear late this year or early next year as the 2023 model.

Given the Phantom's traditionally long life cycle, it is likely too early for a mid-cycle update of the current car. This is evidenced by the lack of significant changes to the car's styling.

What we can see is the new internals of the headlights. The colors of the latest prototype are also new for the Phantom range.

It is also possible that Rolls-Royce is simply using some of the new technology that BMW, another BMW Group brand, will soon be using for the redesigned 7 Series in its flagship model.

Rolls-Royce should also fit a new aerodynamically enhanced Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament.

There would be no changes to the powertrain. The 6.75-liter V-12 twin-turbo in the current Phantom is significantly newer than its successor. This engine produces a maximum output of 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, and drive is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic.

Rolls-Royce is expected to offer an electric version of the current Phantom, but this will likely not happen until Rolls-Royce gets closer to its 2030 goal of becoming a fully electric car brand. The first Rolls-Royce electric car will be a large coupe called the Spectre. It will be built on the same aluminum spaceframe platform found in all modern Rolls-Royces and will go on sale in 2023.
