Spy shots of the 2023 Maserati MC20 convertible: the convertible supercar is here!

Maserati has just begun deliveries of the MC20, but is already testing a drop-top model.

The latest spy shots and previous teaser photos show a prototype of the new MC20 convertible, due to be unveiled in 2022.

The roof is heavily camouflaged, but Maserati has stated that the entire body is made of carbon fiber and other composite materials, suggesting that the MC20 will have a retractable hardtop roof. An alternative would be a removable panel that would need to be removed and attached manually.

Except for the roof, the MC20 convertible should be nearly identical to the MC20 coupe introduced for the 2022 model year. That is, a mid-mounted 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with drive sent to the rear wheels only.

The V-6 engine is a custom-built unit designed by Maserati. Codenamed "Nettuno," the engine delivers 621 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque in the MC20 and accelerates to 60 mph in under 2.9 seconds and up to 202 mph.

On the interior, the MC20 features two 10.3-inch screens, one for the digital meter cluster and one centrally located for infotainment. The ignition button is located on the left side of the steering wheel and the launch control button on the right. Carbon fiber trim is featured throughout and includes such conveniences as a digital rearview mirror and wireless charging for portable devices.

Pricing for the MC20 in the U.S. starts at $212,000. The convertible should go even higher.

In the near future, a third variant of the MC20 will be introduced. This will feature an electric powertrain. However, this will not be Maserati's first electric car. That honor will go to the upcoming redesigned electric version of the GranTurismo.
