Spy shots of the 2024 Maserati GranTurismo Folgore: an electric GT with more than 1,200 hp.

Maserati has been testing prototypes of the GranTurismo for over a year, but this is the first we have seen of the latest tester, which is planned as an electric car version.

Maserati has promised that all of its cars will be available as electric vehicles by 2025, and the GranTurismo will be the first. And by 2030, the company plans to sell only electric cars.

The new Grand Tourer will debut later this year, initially only in an internal combustion engine version. The electric version is expected to arrive in 2023 and will likely hit showrooms as a 2024 model. That this latest prototype is of the electric GranTurismo is evident from the sealed intakes on the front mask, the lack of exhaust tips, and what appears to be a charging port on the rear mask.

The camouflage also depicts the word "Folgore," Maserati's chosen brand name for the electric car. In Italian, it means "lightning bolt."

The electric GranTurismo's powertrain is confirmed to be a three-motor setup with one motor in the front and two in the rear. This setup operates at 800 volts, allowing for fast charging and peak output of over 1,200 hp; a teaser video released in early 2020 hints at the sound the powertrain will produce.

The internal combustion engine that will be offered with the new Folgore setup is Maserati's 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo that debuted in the 2022 MC20 supercar, possibly paired with a mild hybrid setup. This V-6 engine produces 621 hp on its own in the MC20.

A GranTurismo convertible (GranCabrio in some markets) is also planned, with both internal combustion and electric power, expected to arrive in 2023 or 2024.

The last GranTurismo was discontinued in 2019 after a 12-year run. The specialized plant in Modena where it was built now produces the MC20. The new GranTurismo will be produced at the Turin plant.

Before the new GranTurismo arrives, Maserati will present a small SUV called the Grecale. Designed on the platform of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, it will debut on March 22.
