The 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition is unveiled ahead of the New York Auto Show.

The Ford GT is nearing its end, at least for this generation, but before it heads down, we could see a few more special editions.

Another Heritage Edition will follow the GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition unveiled at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show in February.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based American racing team campaigned three GT40 racing cars in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Ford set a record with a 1-2-3 finish. One of the cars, Holman Moody's racing number 5 (chassis number P/1016), finished third; first and second place went to Shelby American's GT40. Holman Moody, along with Shelby, also helped develop the race-winning 7.0-liter V-8 engine, brakes, suspension, and tire setup for the GT40.

Incidentally, the No. 5 GT40 was auctioned in 2018 and sold for $9,795,000.

The modern Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition matches the gold and red livery that the No. 5 GT40 wore in the 1966 Le Mans race, but adds modern touches such as exposed carbon fiber. Brembo brake calipers are black with silver accents. Carbon fiber is also used in the cabin, on the door sills and center console, black Alcantara with gold accent stitching on the seats, and a mix of black Alcantara and black leather on the dashboard and steering wheel.

The GT Hexagonal is available in a variety of colors.

The GT Heritage Edition does not have any powertrain modifications. That is, the GT Holman Moody is powered by a standard 3.5-liter V-6 twin-turbo (660 hp). This engine is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, which spins only the rear wheels.

The introduction of the GT Holman Moody brings the total number of GT Heritage Edition models to nine and marks the last of the special editions that pay tribute to the GT40 Mk II racing car that completed a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1966 Le Mans race. Ford has not disclosed the number of cars produced, but previous examples have been 50. Note that these vehicles will not increase the total 1,350 units Ford will build for this generation of GT supercars, which will end production in December.

The Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition will make its official debut at the 2022 New York International Auto Show on April 13. For more cars to be unveiled at the show, visit our dedicated hub.
