Acura NSX discontinued

Production of the Acura NSX V-6 hybrid supercar ended this week at Acura's Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio.

Sold in most markets around the world as the Honda NSX, the second-generation NSX was produced for six years, with a special 600-hp NSX Type S available for the final model year in 2022. Production of the Type S was limited to 350 units, 300 for the U.S. and the remainder for Canada, with each unit priced at $171,495 including a destination charge of $1,995.

The rights to the first NSX Type S sold for $1.1 million at a charity auction in 2021. The final example rolled off the production line this week, shown here finished in matte gray.

The second-generation NSX was introduced in 2016 as a 2017 model, but it did little to ignite the supercar scene like the 20-year-old original. The United States was the largest market for the car, and even here sales averaged in the low hundreds per year.

Nevertheless, Acura is committed to this nameplate. Brand boss John Ikeda confirmed plans for another NSX in 2021, suggesting it could be an electric car. Honda has since teased an EV described as a "flagship" and featuring mid-engine supercar proportions.

While it may be several years before the new NSX arrives, Acura's Performance Manufacturing Center has been busy applying the NSX's delicate paint process to special PMC Edition versions of Acura's regular vehicles. The most recent example is the 2023 Acura TLX Type S PMC Edition, which was unveiled in October.
