Chevrolet is using the Pax Power Jackal for the upgraded Silverado.

The Ford F-150 has the Raptor and the Ram 1500 has the TRX, but when it comes to the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, there is still no high-performance option.

A few years ago, Houston, Texas-based PaxPower stepped in to fill the void with the original Jackal. It added a rugged suspension and flared wheel arches inspired by Baja pre-runners, and a V-8 engine.

The company now has a new version of the Jackal based on an updated Silverado to be introduced in 2022. Jackal modifications can also be made to the related GMC Sierra 1500.

The conversion is priced at $24,950 and can be performed on any Silverado grade, including the off-road capable ZR2 and ZR2 Bison grade introduced with the updated Silverado. The only requirement is that the conversion be designed for crew cab, short bed bodies.

The conversion process begins with PaxPower's unique wide-body design, which adds 8 inches to the width of the truck. The new parts can match existing colors, or PaxPower can paint the entire truck a new shade.

New suspension parts will then be added. This will include custom control arms that will increase the body track by 6 inches and increase the ride height by 3 inches. The Jackal also gets 2.5-inch coilovers up front and King Racing shocks with remote reservoirs and adjustable damping in the rear. The rear is fitted with Deaver progressive-rate leaf springs, which PaxPower claims provide a better ride and allow for additional travel.

Rounding out the list of standard modifications are a high-flow Borla exhaust and 17-inch wheels wrapped in 35- or 37-inch BFGoodrich off-road tires.

For ZR2 models, PaxPower retains the stock Multimatic shocks and model-specific leaf springs, so prices start lower at $19,950.

It also caters to buyers who want to add even more power. Silverado's 6.2-liter V-8 tends to be the most popular powertrain for Jackal mods, and PaxPower has a supercharger upgrade that boosts output to 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. The upgrade also includes a high-flow intake, independent cooling system, and ECU retuning.

PaxPower also offers many additional accessories. Popular items include custom hoods and bumpers, additional lightning, storage boxes, and interior upgrades.
