Paulstar 2 to be replaced by Paulstar 7

The Polestar 7, which CEO Thomas Ingenlath first hinted at in 2022, will eventually replace the Polestar 2, Ingenlath revealed in an interview with Autocar published Wednesday.

The 7 is not a direct successor to the 2 compact hatchback, Ingenlath said, but it will be in roughly the same position. In other words, it will likely be an entry-level model in the Polestar lineup.

The 7 is currently expected to arrive around 2027, with production taking place at factories in Europe and possibly China. This date coincides with when the 2 will cease production, given that the typical shelf life of a modern car is 7-8 years.

Production of the 2 will begin in 2020, and since then Polestar has supplied over 150,000 units worldwide.

In an interview with Autocar, Ingenlus said that giving the successor to the 2 a new name will allow the automaker to introduce fresh and innovative ideas. The platform underpins the 2025 Polestar 4 compact crossover and the 2025 Volvo EX30 subcompact crossover. It is also used in Geely's Zeekr-branded vehicles; in the EX30, the platform helps achieve a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.4 seconds, in line with Polestar's performance orientation.

Before the 7 arrives, Polestar plans to introduce five sedans in 2025 and six sports cars in 2026.
