2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 N premiered

The Hyundai N performance lineup appears to be expanding once again with electric vehicles.

Following the announcement of the 2025 Ioniq 5 N, the N division's first EV, Hyundai's in-house tuners now appear to be cooking up the Ioniq 6 N.

Engineers were recently spotted testing the Ioniq 6 sedan with some performance upgrades not far from the Nürburgring race track in Germany.

Among the upgrades seen are wheel edges modified to fit the wider track, a stronger braking package with front rotors that nearly fill the 20-inch wheels on the vehicle, and what appears to be a Gurney flap on the upper rear wing.

Currently, the regular Ioniq 6 has a maximum output of 320 hp from its dual-motor all-wheel drive system; the N version will likely more than double that figure; the Ioniq 5 N has a maximum output of 600 hp, temporarily boosted to 641 hp; and the Ioniq 5 N will have a maximum output of 420 hp, temporarily increased to 550 hp. Hyundai claims a 0-60 mph time of 3.3 seconds for this compact crossover. It will also benefit from N software features developed to enhance driving enjoyment, including, in the case of the Ioniq 5 N, N e-shift, which simulates the feel of a gear shift (actually using a single-speed transmission), the sound of a gas engine N Active Sound+, which has multiple sound options, and N Pedal, which adds negative torque through the powertrain to put more weight on the front wheels to aid handling.

Hyundai has not announced plans for the Ioniq 6 N, but it will likely debut in 2025 as a 2026 model. That is roughly when the regular Ioniq 6 is expected to receive its mid-cycle update.

Hyundai N will likely still launch gas-powered vehicles, although they may be electrified in some form; BMW M veteran and former head of Hyundai N, Albert Biermann, recently said that a powerful hybrid powertrains are being developed for various Hyundai Motor Group vehicles, some of which may be used in Hyundai N vehicles, he said.
