2024 GMC Sierra EV is coming, with a 440-mile range and crab-walking capability.

GMC on Tuesday unveiled the latest specifications for its 2024 Sierra EV electric pickup truck, which will premiere in 2022 and finally hit showrooms this summer.

The first version to arrive will be a limited-range top called the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, but some of the specifications should be shared with lower grades arriving at a later date.

Many of the specifications will also be shared with the related 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, which, like the GMC, will go on sale this summer to retail customers and will initially be a limited range-topper called the Silverado EV First Edition RST. Since last year, the Silverado EV Work Truck has been available for commercial vehicle buyers.

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition will come with up to 754 horsepower from a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. This output is temporary and available when the truck is in Max Power mode; GMC has not disclosed how much horsepower the truck typically delivers.

Towing and payload estimates have been revised upward to 10,000 and 1,450 pounds, respectively. The towing capacity is 500 lbs. higher than previously announced and the payload is 150 lbs. higher. The split-folding rear seats combined with a reconfigurable tailgate will allow for a maximum bed length of approximately 11 feet. The standard bed length is 5 feet 11 inches.

The maximum range estimate is also 40 miles higher than previously announced, at 440 miles; EPA-rated values have not been released; GMC is still withholding detailed specifications on the battery, which is believed to have a 205 kwh capacity. However, it has been confirmed that an 800-volt electrical system will allow up to 350 kwh of DC fast charging.

Air suspension is standard, allowing the truck to be raised or lowered approximately 2 inches. Rear-wheel steering is also included, allowing the truck to enter a crab-walking mode of diagonal travel, similar to GMC's Hummer EV pickup and Hummer EV SUV. Rear-wheel steering also reduces the turning radius of the truck, aiding maneuverability in tight situations.

Inside, the Sierra EV distinguishes itself from the current GMC lineup and its Chevrolet siblings with its unique dashboard and design. Instead of a wall of screens on the dashboard, the Sierra EV has an 11.0-inch digital meter cluster and a 16.8-inch portrait-style touchscreen with a screen-mounted volume knob and seven hard toggles mounted below the It is divided into. All premium features are also included, such as a heads-up display, glass roof, and General Motors' Super Cruise automatic driver assistance feature.

Pricing for the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 starts at $99,495, including a $1,995 destination charge. This is a significant downgrade from the previously announced starting price of $108,695. More affordable Sierra EV grades, such as Elevation and ATV, will be available starting with the 2025 model year.

Production will take place at GM's Factory Zero plant near Detroit, where the Hummer EV and Silverado EV are also built; in 2025, production will expand to GM's Orion Assembly Plant in Orion Township, Michigan.
