McLaren P1 successor to be priced at nearly $2 million

Following a dealer meeting earlier this month, more details have emerged about the successor to the McLaren P1, Automotive News (subscription required) reported, citing dealer officials who attended the meeting.

The new hypercar will reportedly debut in the fourth quarter, but McLaren will not begin deliveries until early 2026. This means that it will be launched after Ferrari's next hypercar, which is currently undergoing testing, but most likely before Porsche's next hypercar based on its Mission X electric concept.

Like the P1, whose production was limited to 375 units, fewer than 400 units are planned, giving loyal customers the first chance to buy one. The price is approximately $2 million, nearly double the price the P1 originally had.

Images of the car were reportedly released during the meeting, and according to dealer sources for Automotive News, the car's design is a mix of the P1 and a more hardcore Senna.

McLaren's traditional butterfly doors have previously been reported to be replaced by gullwing doors on the new hypercar. It will also reportedly feature recessed headlights similar to those seen on the Artura and 750S.

The powertrain will reportedly be a plug-in hybrid with a newly developed V-8 internal combustion engine. This V-8 is likely to be of McLaren's own design, which was announced last year.

Although the number of electric motors is not mentioned, Automotive News reports that the hybrid system will be 70% lighter than the P1, another V-8-based plug-in hybrid, thanks to a lightweight, high-density battery borrowed from McLaren's Formula 1 program. Aerodynamic know-how developed in the F1 program will also be used to ensure the P1's successor delivers the best possible performance.
