The future Libian may have a removable roof
Rivian is trying to patent a removable roof system for EVs.
A patent application published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on May 30, after being filed by Rivian Nov. 2022/3/30 We are dealing with a "slide latch mechanism" for removable roof panels.
As the name suggests, the latch slides from the closed position to the open position to remove the roof panel, suggesting that Rivian can be driven by an actuator. This more automated system makes it easier to remove roof panels than existing hardware, Rivian claims.
Removing the roof panel can be stored in the designated compartment, which, according to the application, is also mentioned in the wind deflectors used during outdoor running.
Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler owners know the pleasure of driving without a roof, but the GMC Hummer EV may be stored in the front trunk of an electric truck otherwise, EV owners have little choice when it comes to driving without a roof. The 2025 Maserati Gran Cabrio Folgore could become the only electric convertible available in the United States. When it arrived in the fourth quarter. However, it is unclear where the removable roof will fit into Rivian's near future product plans. The automaker's next vehicle will be the R2026 electric SUV, which is expected to arrive in the year 2. Rivian showed it with a fixed roof earlier this year, and that seems unlikely to change, given R2's position as a more mainstream model. Rivian also shows the r3 and R3X electric hot hatches, but it also doesn't have a removable roof.
