Hardcore Maserati GT2 Stradale debuts in Monterey
Maserati returned to international sports car racing last year with the GT2 racing car based on the MC20 supercar. From that racing car came the new GT2 Stradale, a road-going model.
The car was unveiled Friday at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, one of the premier events of the 2024 Monterey Car Week currently underway in California. It joins the previously unveiled MC20 Icona special edition and the track-only Mcxtrema.
According to Maserati, the GT2 Stradale was developed in parallel with the GT2 race car, with the same engineers working on both projects. This should give the road car a specification similar to that of the race car and provide an experience like no other road car.
Both cars have carbon fiber bodies and twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engines; the GT2 Stradale is actually more powerful than a race car because it does not have to meet racing regulations. Peak output is 631 hp, up 10 hp from the MC20, and drive is transmitted to the rear wheels via the same 8-speed dual-clutch automatic as the MC20, but the GT2 Stradale has shorter shift times.
Performance is claimed at 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 201 mph. [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...]
