Valtteri Bottas Drops Track Recorded at Circuit
Valtteri Bottas recently released his debut single, but the Finnish F1 driver did not provide vocals or play any instruments.
The song, titled “Flight of the Valtteri,” which is currently streaming on Spotify, was created using biometric data from Bottas' drive around California's Thunder Hill Raceway in an Audi R8. It was a marketing stunt for the data analysis company Hyland, Bottas' personal sponsor and official partner of the Sauber F1 team, where Bottas currently drives.
Bottas was connected to sensors that measured heart rate, brain activity, perspiration, breathing, and more. The collected data was passed on to producers and composers, resulting in a roughly three-minute song that is currently streaming on Spotify.
Whether music derived from bio-data will finally have its moment remains to be seen, but Bottas may soon be forced to make a career change. He is one of the few drivers currently on the F1 grid with no confirmed seat for 2025, and could hold onto his position at Sauber, which will be transformed into an Audi factory team in 2026.
Bottas made his F1 debut with Williams in 2013, but joined Mercedes AMG in 2017 following the shock retirement of champion Nico Rosberg. After 10 wins with Silver Arrow, Bottas moved to Alfa Romeo (then the Sauber team) for George Russell in 2022.
Since his move to Sauber, Bottas has teamed up with Zhou Guangyu. Since then, Audi has completed a 100% takeover of Sauber and named Nico Hulkenberg as its first driver, but no plans for a second seat have yet been announced. That leaves Bottas, one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, with the possibility of staying with the team a little longer.
