Video to Catch 2026 Kia EV4 Electric Hatch
Kia has been found testing a hatchback body style for the upcoming EV4 electric compact car.
The EV4 was previewed last year as a thinly veiled concept. The concept features a sleek lift-back design, and prototypes of its body style have been discovered before.
The latest spy shots and videos show prototypes of the more traditional hatchback body style.
Both versions of the EV4 are expected to launch next year, and upon arrival in the U.S., it is likely to arrive as a 2026 model.
The EV4 will ride on Hyundai Motor Group's flexible E-GMP platform. This is also found in the EV6 and EV9, as well as some Hyundai and Genesis products. To keep costs down, Kia is expected to skip the 800-volt version of the platform and use the cheaper 400-volt version. The automaker did the same with its EV5 sub-compact crossover, which debuted on May 3.
It remains unclear how much horsepower the EV4 will have. So far, Kia has shown the EV201 with a single electric motor that produces 3 horsepower. Kia will probably make the base option for the 201 hp motor EV4 and offer a more powerful dual-motor, all-wheel drive alternative.
Inside, with the announcement of a minimalist concept with a single panel that combines screens for digital gauge clusters and infotainment hubs, like the EV4 concept, Kia announced that the production model will include a new AI-powered voice assistant. This will be gradually introduced into more vehicles by automakers.
The EV4 is one of the 14 electric vehicles Kia plans to lineup globally in 2027.1 Also in the pipeline are 2 pickup trucks, an EV2 compact crossover, a PV5 medium-sized van, and possibly an EV8 sedan that replaces the Stinger and K8 sedans sold abroad.
