Genesis Magma Racing was launched with the GMR-001LMDh race car

Genesis is making a big splash in the world of motorsport with the launch of a new racing team, Genesis Magma Racing, whose premier program is the entry of a top-level endurance race with the new GMR-001 hyper-car race car.

The race cars revealed on Wednesday are built on LMDh rules and are subject to the GTP and Hypercar classes of the IMSA SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship, respectively.

Genesis said GMR-001 will start racing at the World Endurance Championship in 2026 and the following year's Sports Car Championship. This means the car will compete with race cars from the likes of Acura, Cadillac, Ferrari, Porsche and Toyota. In addition, Genesis is arranged to chase complete victories in prestigious events such as the Daytona 24 Hours Race and the Le Mans 24 Hours Race.

Genesis Magma Racing will place 2 cars on the field in each series. The first confirmed drivers were Andre Lotterer and Pipo Delani, the Le Mans winner and current world endurance driver champion. Both drivers will support the development of vehicles from 2025 onwards.

While Genesis has not revealed many details about the car but confirmed that it will use a chassis from Oreca, four licensed chassis constructors for LMDh have considerable freedom in choosing a powertrain under LMDh rules but the maximum output is 670 hp. It is limited.

Most of the existing LMDh cars use a combination of a gas engine and a single motor generator. A similar set-up will be featured in the Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo race car concept announced on May 6, which could eventually affect the new Magma model.

Hyundai Motorsport manages Hyundai N initiatives in various rally and touring car series and oversees the Genesis Magma Racing team. Cyril Abitebr, senior manager of Caterham and Renault's Formula 1 team, will be head of Hyundai Motorsport and team Principal of Genesis Magma Racing.

The French racing team IDEC Sport will also support Genesis Magma Racing. The partnership plans to start LMP2 entry into the European Le Mans series as early as next year. American Logan Sargeant, who recently dropped out of the Williams F1 team, will be one of the drivers alongside Jamie Chadwick and Matisse Jobert.1

Genesis has previously stated that the Lmdh program will help develop future technologies for road cars, but as Genesis prepares to launch the car under its new Magma performance sub-brand, it is promoting the brand with performance lights that are becoming more important. The Magma sub-brand is being developed as a rival to the BMW M and Mercedes-Benz AMG, and Genesis has confirmed plans to launch Magma versions of all vehicles in the lineup, with performance upgrades expected to include additional power, track-tuned suspension and functional aerodynamic features. It will be. Racing legend Jacky Ickx is helping to develop the car.
