An electric Chevrolet Camaro? GM is considering such a possibility.

General Motors is gearing up to launch a new lineup of electric cars. A short video posted by the automaker on Twitter this week suggests that the Chevrolet Camaro electric car could be one of them.

The video shows silhouettes of various vehicles on GM's recently announced BEV3 platform, which GM says will be flexible enough to accommodate many different models.

In about three seconds of the short clip, the silhouette looks very much like a Camaro coupe. You can clearly see the proportions of the long hood and short rear deck that characterize Chevrolet's muscle cars.

Make no mistake, this is not confirmation that GM is planning an electric Camaro. However, it does seem to have some potential for this automaker.

The BEV3 incorporates a modular battery pack, powertrain components, and basic vehicle architecture, which should give GM the flexibility to build an electric Camaro alongside the already confirmed electric models.

GM has stated that the BEV3 will support rear-wheel drive and a powertrain with enough power to accelerate 0-60 mph in less than 3.0 seconds. The BEV3 is expected to produce around 1,000 hp.

The BEV3 will also support rear-wheel drive and a powertrain capable of accelerating 0-60 mph in less than 3.0 seconds.

GM has also stated that the BEV3 will be available in the 1,000 hp range.

According to GM officials, the Ultium will be able to be fitted with batteries with up to 200 kilowatt-hours of capacity, which will provide a range of up to 400 miles.

Chevrolet previously built an electric Camaro for drag racing, which reportedly posted a 9.0-second quarter-mile time. However, this car was a modified version of the current Camaro and was not intended for production.

GM does not provide details on the future of the Camaro, but the current sixth-generation model is expected to last until 2023.

The seventh-generation Camaro will require a costly redesign, as the Alpha platform underpinning the sixth-generation Camaro will be discontinued; it is unclear whether GM will invest in a new Camaro at the same time as ramping up production of high-end EVs.

During this development, GM will launch new electric models from Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac, as well as the Cruise Origin self-driving shuttle.

It will begin with the Cadillac Relic crossover in April. Cadillac will also get an electric sedan, while Chevrolet will get an updated Bolt EV and a crossover variant called the Bolt EUV; the GMC Hummer EV will debut in May, and the GMC Cadillac RX-8 will debut in May.

We've reached out to GM for comment and will update this article as soon as we receive a response.
