Paulstar's "Precept" concept hints at Model S and Tycoon competitors.

With the Polestar 1 in the hands of buyers and deliveries of the Polestar 2 set to begin any day now, all eyes are on what the Swedish EV maker will unveil next.

On Tuesday, Polestar unveiled the Precept concept, giving some details: the Precept is a large sedan with a fastback body that, if put into production, will compete with high-end versions of the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.

The Precept will be the first car of its kind in Sweden.

From some angles, the Precept resembles another fastback sedan currently on sale, the Kia Stinger. However, the Precept has a wheelbase of 122.4 inches, which is 8.0 inches longer than the Stinger. As a result, Polestar claims that the car has enough room for rear-seat passengers, as well as for a larger battery pack.

The clean, minimalist design is a sign that Polestar is moving into the future as it further differentiates itself from Volvo. Recall that Polestar was originally a Volvo racing team and tuner. The exterior is based on aerodynamic efficiency (note the lack of a grille), while the interior emphasizes sustainable materials. The interior panels are made from linen materials and the seat upholstery is made from recycled plastic bottles. Other materials include recycled cork vinyl and fishing nets.

Technology will also play an important role in the design of future Polestars. The components on the roof? It houses lidar sensors for automated driving systems. The side mirrors have been replaced by camera-based systems, as have the rearview mirrors.

The Precept also features a 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster and Polestar's next-generation interface, which is based on a 15-inch longitudinal infotainment screen with a customized version of Google's Android operating system for the car. The system is designed to be used in a variety of applications. The system is open to third-party developers, who will be able to download and install a range of apps that extend the functionality of the car in the future.

When will mass production of the Precept Element begin? Polestar's next model will be a small SUV called the Polestar 3, due around 2022. Could it be followed by a large Precept-style sedan called the Polestar 4? Time will tell.

The Precept concept will have its world premiere on March 3 at the Geneva International Motor Show. More information about the Swiss show can be found on a specialized website.
