Jay Leno talks about his $1.25 million Draco GTE electric super sedan.

If Tesla can do it, Draco Motors might be able to do it. At last year's Monterey Car Week, this Silicon Valley-based EV startup unveiled the Drako GTE, an electric super sedan boasting four motors, 1,200 horsepower, and advanced dynamics control technology honed at the Nürburgring.

Jay Leno recently received a visit from Drako Vice President Shiv Sikand to learn all about this stunning sedan and its technology. For example, Sikand confirmed that the GTE uses the Fisker Karma body structure. This is a move that will allow this small startup to avoid costly crash tests and still ensure that the GTE is legal in all 50 states.

He also confirmed that each of the four permanent magnet hybrid synchronous motors produces a peak output of 300 horsepower, and each is coupled to a direct drive gearbox that allows for advanced four-wheel torque vectoring. Power is provided by a 90-kilowatt-hour, 450-volt battery pack.

Top speed is 206 mph, and range should reach over 200 miles with moderate driving. Thanks to fast charging, a full charge takes about 30 minutes.

Drako has actually been around for several years, but worked quietly to build the GTE; Sikand told Leno that unlike many other EV startups and existing EV companies, Drako did not want to release the GTE to the public until the product was actually ready for customers to buy He said.

The car is great, but for most car enthusiasts, the price tag will be hard to swallow. Draco is offering the GTE for $1.25 million. Fortunately for the company, only 25 units will be available for sale.
