The ultra-rare Ferrari F50 GT races at the Yas Marina F1 circuit.

A video of the Ferrari F50 GT racing car speeding around the Yas Marina Circuit, home of the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix, has been released.

The view from the driver's seat and the sound produced by the naturally aspirated V12 are intoxicating. Please turn up the volume to the maximum to enjoy.

Many readers may not be familiar with the F50 GT. This is because the project was cancelled before the car was introduced in competition.

In 1995, Ferrari introduced the F50 as the successor to the F40. A year later, Ferrari developed a GT1-spec F50 GT racing car and partnered with motorsports engineering firms Dallara and ATR to build the first three cars. The car you see in the video is one of those three.

The F50 GT was developed to compete in the BPR Global GT Series, a series for racing cars derived from production cars. This series was replaced by the FIA GT Championship in 1997, but Ferrari decided not to run the F50 GT because it would be competing against homologation specials like the Porsche 911 GT1 and the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR. At the time, Ferrari was devoting most of its resources to increasing its presence in F1. As a result, no additional F50 GTs were produced after the first three.

The F50 GT closely resembled the road car on which it was based, but could be distinguished by its roof scoop and large rear wing. The engine is mated to a six-speed sequential transmission and accelerates from a standstill to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds. Top speed is 233 mph.
