Spy shots of the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport

Nissan is struggling with an aging lineup and, as a result, cash flow. Fortunately, the Japanese auto giant is working on a fleet of new and updated models to turn its fortunes around, one of which has just been spotted.

Engineers were spotted testing the Rogue Sport, a redesigned compact crossover SUV that is expected to be delivered to dealers in 2021 as a 2022 model. In other markets, the vehicle will be badged Qashqai.

The proportions are similar to the current model, but the more modern styling appears to be inspired by recent Nissan crossover concepts such as Xmotion and IMQ. Inside, the car should feature Nissan's next-generation infotainment system powered by Google's Android operating system.

The new Rogue Sport's platform will likely be an updated version of the current model's CMF modular design. This points to the vehicle coming with front-wheel drive (all-wheel drive available) and, unfortunately, a continuously variable transmission. One of the vehicles engineers are using as a benchmark is the Lynk & Co. vehicle, currently sold only in China

It is not clear what powertrain will be offered, but the current model's 141-horsepower 2.0-liter inline-4 will likely be retained, possibly this time likely to be paired with a mild hybrid setup. Nissan is working on an EV-only vehicle based on its 2019 Ariya compact crossover concept.

Before the new Rogue Sport arrives, Nissan will unveil a redesigned version of its large crossover, the Rogue. This is slated for later this year as a 2021 model. Other new models planned include a redesigned Frontier mid-size pickup truck and a redesigned Z sports car.
